Philips acquires wireless LAN specialist Systemonic

Philips’ Semiconductors has acquired multi-protocol, multi-band wireless LAN silicon specialist Systemonic.

Philips said the deal would add high-speed wireless capabilities to its Nexperia system-on-chip platform, and strengthen its technology base for so-called ‘connected home’ applications involving streaming audio/video, and data and voice.

Systemonic is a, Dresden, Germany based fabric-less semiconductor company for high speed wireless system-on-chip modules. Systemonic has demonstrated a chip-set that meets the three IEEE 802.11 (WLAN) standards: 802.11a in the 5GHz band, 11b and 11g in the 2.4GHz. The company claimed its low-power implementation can deliver data rates of 72Mbit/s.
